Ben Qin

Head of Asia Pacific

Descartes Underwriting

Ben Qin is Head of Asia Pacific at Descartes Underwriting, bringing 18 years’ experience in the insurance sector across the region. He most recently served as Descartes’ Head of North Asia and Australia, where he led the establishment of the Sydney office four years ago and subsequently launched the Hong Kong and Tokyo offices to support growing client demand.

Prior to joining Descartes, Ben spent over eight years at Marsh, leading the firm’s Alternative Risk Transfer function for Asia Pacific in his final four years. This background in innovative risk transfer solutions, combined with his on-the-ground experience across multiple APAC markets, underpins his expertise in structuring responses to complex, climate-related risks.

As Head of Asia Pacific, Ben oversees Descartes’ operations across all APAC markets, working closely with broker partners to deliver tailored solutions aligned to local regulatory, market, and peril environments. He is particularly focused on helping organisations manage exposure to the region’s increasing natural hazard risks—including cyclones, typhoons, earthquakes, floods and droughts—while supporting more resilient, data-driven approaches to risk transfer and portfolio protection.
